I called as a first-time prospective client who had an issue with my heating unit. Carl, who answered, asked what type of heating system I had, and whether it was a mini split that does AC and heat. I was not sure, and said yes, I think so, as our blower is used for AC and heat. He quoted a $150+tax for the service call, and then immediately said, actually, you have a mini split so it would be $239+tax and the first service time would be Friday since it is a special technician needed for servicing a mini split and there is limited availability of technicians for that type of system (I called on a Monday). I asked him if I did indeed have a mini split if my AC was electric and heat was gas. He said yes. I then uploaded photos of my unit on chatgpt and asked if I had a mini split. Turns out I have a furnace + central air combo (ductless mini splits are all electric). When I called Carl back, he did not care to revise his timeline for a service call. Be prepared for arbitrary service timelines and quotes if you call this place.
Like every homeowner, the last people I want to see is Aidan of Vigilante Plumbing, and cohorts! That said, since I really needed a plumber; whom I really trust, and appreciate their expertise, I reached out to Vigilante Plumbing. These guys, Aidan, Josh, Carlos, and the ENTIRE TEAM @Vigilante really are the best! They're not the cheapest in Brooklyn, but they are the best. I have an old (100 years) house, and with an old house, Sh&t happens. I had the original water runoff piping system in the basement, which feeds out to the city systems. Three years ago, about a six inch or so crack developed in one section of the pipes, I reached for Flex Seal, and flex sealed the pipe crack with multiple layers of the flex seal tape. Aidan was at the house last month (August 2025) to snake the sewer line, and he noticed my flex seal job, and he just chuckled ... Fast forward to last weekend (September 2025) we had some heavy and persistent rainfall in Brooklyn, and I noticed another section of the pipes developed a crack, and was leaking water. Monday morning I call Vigilante, and they dispatch Aidan to the house on Tuesday morning, and as he's replacing the damaged section on the left side of the house, the 'T joint' (or something like that, developed a crack from the pressure of cutting the pipes on the left side. Longer story short, I discussed with Aidan, about replacing the all of the pipes, T-joint, and snaking the line going out to the city system at the trap, and we decided that I really need to change the whole thing. So Aidan worked with Carlos (Manager?) and they came up with a plan and price that was suitable for me, and Aidan and his partner in crime were back at the house, and finished the complete replacement of my 100 year old water runoff pipe system - new cast iron pipes, new T-joint, snaking the feed to the Cities system, and I am a happy camper! The guys ran water through both sides of the house runoff pipes, and NO LEAKS!! Vigilante is NO Fugazzi! Fuggedaboudit
We have recently had numerous issues with our furnace and our water heater. Vigilante was recommended by a neighbor and the service has been excellent. We have mostly interacted with Antonio (highly recommend!), but also with Mark and Rodney. They have all been professional and reliable - would recommend Vigilante to anyone with HVAC and plumbing needs!
